Youth of the Month June 2008
The Youth of the Month for June is Theika McNaught of Cargo. Theika is a Year 6 student at Cargo Public School. She is an exceptional athlete who has made state level in several sporting fields this year.
Sporting Achievements
- Has represented herself and her school at State carnivals for the Western Region in swimming, athletics and cross country for the last 2 years
- Has been the Orange Small Schools Champion in cross country for the last 4 years and has won the Orange District event all but one year in this time
- Member of the Orange Small School Rugby Union team that came runner up in the Western Region knockout competition and made the possible & probable side trying out for the Western team
- Member of the Orange Small Schools soccer team who won the Western Region PSSA final and 5th in NSW
- Selected to play in the Western Region team in the State soccer carnival against other school zone regions at the State carnival in Armidale
- Member of the school touch football team which made the State finals carnival held in Sydney, at this carnival Theika was the highest try scorer and led Cargo to win the championships and became the NSW Champions for 2007
Community Involvement
- Theika comes from a strong family connection involved in the community and is actively involved in community events.
Additional Information
- Theika has displayed tremendous leadership during the year of both younger classmates and sporting peers.
- Theika is the most successful student Cargo Public School has ever had in relation to sport, her representation of 5 sports at State level demonstrates her level of commitment.
Theika has shown the children of Cargo and surrounding areas that being isolated from larger regional centers does not mean that you are unable to compete at the highest level, several younger students of the school now realize opportunities available to them. Theika is a student who gives 100% at all times. She applies an understanding that often you must work hard to achieve. Theika is a very honest and loyal person who brings out the best in others; she is a great asset to her town and an inspiration to others.
